Outback Photo is now five years old
Just for the fun we left the first (and only
:-) ) editorial on
our server. We find that we fulfilled our vision. DOP has gone
a long way and has even changed our lives. DOP is
more
successful
than
we ever
thought.
We want to thank our contributors, friends and customers that
make DOP possible. Let's keep the vision fresh for the next
five
years. We like the dialog with all our readers and the right
place to share ideas are our
forums.

Qimage Lite (Windows only)
Mike Chaney wrote us "Over the past 8 years,
Qimage has become the Swiss Army knife of Windows photo printing
tools and has earned recognition from professionals worldwide
who want to be able to produce the best quality photographic
prints possible. While Qimage serves the needs of the professional
and advanced amateur well, it was time to trim some fat from
that Swiss Army knife to give people a tool that has most of
the power of the original, but isn't as bulky or difficult to
carry around.
The result is Qimage Lite. Qimage Lite packs
the same punch as it's big brother, the professional edition,
except Qimage Lite does it in a much more compact and easy to
use package. We've taken all the tools that are commonly used
by the casual photo shooter and wrapped them in an interface
that is both easy to learn and powerful to use. Unlike the control
panel type approach used by the Qimage "power users",
Qimage Lite has more of a walk-through feel that leads users
down the right path...."
We always found that Qimage is a bargain application
(our
review). Now Qimage Lite is at $34.95 even
cheaper. Honestly we find the lite version more easy to
use and it does all we want from a good printing
application:
- Fully color managed
- Excellent upsizing
- Smart final sharpening
- Image sizing
- Borders

8/1/2005 Sensor
cleaning: A note of caution
We post to this blog not because we know "who
did what?" but to make all readers aware that you are at your
own risk using 3rd party cleaning solutions. All the supported
solutions by Nikon and Canon don't work and all that work are
somehow risky. We always applauded Fuji/Kodak for officially
supporting Sensor Swabs. Also the Olympus way (ultra sound) to
clean sensors
maybe a step in the right direction (we just never did the testing).
We hope that the industry will improve on this issue rather sooner
than
later.
