Our brand new E-Book: The Art of Digital Fine Art printing
"....I am very impressed with the book you are about to read. It’s information like this that has helped to raise the quality of digital output and reduce the traditional art world’s resistance to the use of digital tools in art. It is a book written by someone who KNOWS fine art digital printmaking. Uwe’s style is concise and to the point. This comprehensive and complete guide to fine art digital printmaking should be included in the library of anyone who is serious about making fine art digital prints...."
from the foreword by Mac Holbert (Nash Editions) 4/17/2006

4/16/2006 Rob Galbraith's forum closed for posting and for sale

Uwe has been a moderator for some years now. We will miss this place.

4/14/2006 Our first look at Apple Aperture 1.1

4/14/2006 Apple releases Aperture 1.1

  • New lower price $299 (early adopters of Aperture 1.0 can claim a $200 (US) coupon)
  • Universal Binary
  • Improved RAW decoding
  • New Color Meter Control
  • New documentation with over 500 pages

We will have a closer look at 1.1 soon. Here is our Aperture 1.0 diary. Clearly $299 put Aperture at a much better price point and honoring early adopters with a $200 coupon is a good move.

4/13/2006 "Add Noise/Grain to your Images" by Mark Saperstein

We are told that noise is the big enemy in digital photography, right? Looks like this is not always true.

4/12/2006 Don't miss our Summit 2006

The 4th Photography & Fine Art Printing Summit will take place November 10th to 13th, 2006, in Page, Arizona. Seats are limited. In addition to studying color management and color spaces, we will also do field photography in stunning locations such as Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend, as well as study Raw conversion, Photoshop processing, image optimization, printing. Joe Holmes who joins us as a guest instructor is considered an industry leading expert on fine art printing for many years. We have support from Phase One (P45) and Canon (both plan to be on location). We also will be able to print on different papers from Hahnemuehle and likely other paper brands.

4/11/2006 Alain Briot publishes the audio CD: Travis Terry, Navajoland

You may ask what an audio CD has to do with photography. Music is the purest form to express our emotions. This means music and photography go well together. In this case even more as the roots of this beautiful music by Travis Terry are an integral part of the Navajoland. Highly recommended.

4/11/2006 Helicon Filter 4.20 released

4/11/2006 Updated: "Print It Yourself" Print 2006-01 also in B&W

4/10/2006 "Print It Yourself" Print 2006-01

We launch a new exciting gallery project: "Print It Yourself" portfolio prints. We hope our readers like this entirely new form of print gallery. Even if you don't buy any prints you can inspect full sized sample images (15" wide).

4/5/2006 "Silkypix Developer Studio 2.00" by Stewart Hemley

Thanks to our reader Stewart Hemley we can now feature a review about Silkypix. We have used Silkypix on our Mac and can second that this is a serious RAW converter.

4/5/2006 RAW Developer 1.4.7 released

  • Support added for Canon 30D.
  • Support added for Olympus E-330.
  • Much improved detection and elimination of "dead" columns and "dead" pixels for Phase One digital backs.

4/5/2006 Phil's Canon 30D review (source dpreview)

His "highly recommended" rating comes to no surprise because already the 20D was an excellent camera.

4/5/2006 Tonality & Colors in Photoshop: Lobster

If you did not read this article then you need to check it out anyway. We added a link to a Photoshop tool called "Lobster" that has a very interesting approach to separate image editing into strictly Luminosity and Color operations.
